A Poppy Red.
A poppy red
To remember the dead
Who fought and died
Side by side
For God and country
To keep us free
These men and women
They died for me
Do we remember the
sacrifice
Made on the
battlefields?
Pain and death and
injury
The freedom won.
You say ‘history’
NO
The sacrifices are
still made
The fields are still
blood red
And somewhere in the
world
A bullet is released.
And loved ones die for
freedom
Loved ones die for
peace.
A final sacrifice of
one
On some far off shore.
I’ll cry until the
morning
For those who’ve gone
before.
Dedicated
to Benjamin Whatley
and all those in the armed forces
who have Gone before.
